The 2000 Presidential Election Essays - Al Gore,

The 2000 Presidential Election Every four years it takes place. Us Americans do it. People fought hard for us to have this right. What is it? It's the right to vote. This year happens to be the year of the 2000 presidential election. With what could be the closest election in the history of the United States there are many issues that surround the election. Us Americans are going to vote for whomever we think is going to do the best job of solving these issues. However, before we get to the issues we must first get to the two presidential hopefuls that have a chance to win. The two presidential hopefuls that have a chance to win are Al Gore and George W. Bush. George W. Bush as opposed to Al Gore has an advantage of having experience as the governor of Texas in which he has won four times consecutively. Al Gore has the experience of serving on The United States Senate, The United States Congress, and as being the vice president under the best president in recent years, Bill Clinton. Gore's work experience will outweigh Bush's governor ship for the one with the most experience but it should not have a significant effect in the election. Both presidential hopefuls are well educated. The both have degrees from Harvard. Bush also has a degree from Yale. Who is the most educated of the two is not going to be a deciding factor in the election either. Politics has run in both of these men's families. Al Gore was born on March 31, 1948, and is the son of former United States senator Albert Gore Sr. Where as George W. Bush is two years older at the age of 54 and son of former United States President, George W. Bush. Both Candidates are quite comparable with their histories though Al Gore has a slight advantage in experience because he served in the senate the congress and, as vice president, but this will not be the deciding factor in the election. What could help the presidents get more votes, are their running mates. Joseph Leiberman Al Gore's running mate is Joseph Lieberman. Joseph Leiberman has served on the United States Senate for the last twelve years. In his twelve years in the senate, Lieberman has fought for working families. He has been a leader in winning passage of landmark environmental protection, welfare reform, and governmental reform laws.1 Lieberman brings a strong surge with him to the Al Gore campaign because [he] has been fighting for working families and standing up to special interests through out a 30 year career in public service.1 This will stand well in the back of voter's minds when they step into that voter's booth on November 7. Even though Al Gore did a great job Picking his running mate George Bush didn't do such a bad job himself. Dick Cheney George W. Bush choose Dick Cheney to be his running mate. Cheney has a lot of experience in politics around the White House. He began his public service in 1969 when he became part of the Nixon administration in which he worked at a number of positions from the cost of living council to being with-in the White House. From the Nixon Administration Cheney moved up to be the White House chief of staff when Gerald Ford became president in August of 1974. Cheney held the position of chief of staff until the end of the Ford administration and then moved on to serve as his states only congressmen. Yet he had major accomplishments his greatest accomplishment was when America needed him the most. ?As secretary of defense from March 1989 to January of 1993, Mr. Cheney directed two of the largest campaigns in recent history, Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Storm which gave him recognition as shaping the future of the United States military in an age profound and rapid change.? 2Though Chaney did a good job as Chief of staff his addition to the Bush campaign nor Al Gore's Addition of Joseph Lieberman is going to have a traumatic effect in the way voters vote. The things that will have an impact on the way voters

Innovation, Sustainability and the Human Race essays

Innovation, Sustainability and the Human Race essays Since the beginning of evolution, humans have been creating innovative ways to simplify life. From the discovery of fire to modern advances in technology, the main objective was to simplify adversity in life. Although modern advances in technology have proven advantageous, few people take the time to review what affect this imposes on the environment and planet, specifically the consumption, and production of material resources. With modern technology, and conclusive data from extensive research, a person must wonder why America does not take a stronger initiative to protect the environment. By conserving natural resources this will aid in maximizing and improving future ecosystem opportunities. It is detrimental to future generations and livelihood to take measures to protect natural resources. If America does not make current changes to do so, future generations will be at risk, potentially leaving these generations in depletion of natural resources. In relation to human consumption, Americans have a tendency to consume in excess. Farm lands, for example, have been overly consumed for industrial and commercial objectives. As stated by Professor Reid Ewing, Lands most suitable for growing crops also tend to be most suitable for growing houses, (Turk & Bensel, 2011, p. 11). Land lost for the purpose of expansion or the distribution of urban or suburban areas into undeveloped lands is known as sprawl. Sprawl poses numerous environmental issues. The development of a natural environment damages natural beauty and sabotages landscaping. This also enhances the threat of water and air pollution to the environment. Sprawl developments are designed in a manner requiring use of automobiles. This requires increased fuel consumption, increases air pollution, and the emission of greenhouse gases, which are responsible for change in climate, (Turk & Bensel, 2011). As land transforms into shopping malls, developments, and buildi...

AIG accounting scandal (2005) - Income Statement report Essay

AIG accounting scandal (2005) - Income Statement report - Essay Example hese scandals, postmortem results indicate presence of a creative accounting process, a phenomenon characterized by complex methods of funds redirecting and misuse as well as overstated revenues and improper reporting of expenses and liabilities. According to Roddy (2011, pp 34), the most significant scandal of the last decade involved Tyco, HealthSouth, Enron, WorldCom, and AIG among others. This paper aims at exploring the accounting scandal that affected American Insurance Group in 2005. American Insurance Group (AIG) is a multinational insurance corporation. It is regarded as the World’s largest insurance company with over 90,000 workers and offices in over 130 countries. The company is also involved in other forms of business including aircraft leasing and assets management in many parts of the world. During this time of the scandal, the company was led by Maurice Greenburg, the long-time serving leader, having led the company since 1968. He was named as the person involved in the scandal, and eventually pressured to step down in 2005. The company came under scrutiny first in 2001 after it was realized that a client company had been assisted to strengthen their balance sheet fraudulently. Investigations were started and in 2003, a penalty of $10 Million was passed by SEC to settle the issue. The company’s income smoothing products were investigated in 2004 and a bid rigging complaint filed. Kay (2005) wrote that the company admitted to having conducted improper accounting exercises. When the company finally released the 2004 annual earnings, it was discovered that re-insurance deals with GenRe were not accounted for in the deposits. A restatement of this resulted to a decrease in the earnings by $1.32 Billion. According to Martin and Wesley (2005), several lawsuits were filed against AIG starting with one by the Attorney General concerning misleading accounting which Greenberg dismissed as political war. Others were filed by the federal agency leading to

Effects of Chinese Auto Market on US Economy Research Paper

Effects of Chinese Auto Market on US Economy - Research Paper Example    During the industrialization process of China, the automotive industry has grown rapidly. The growth of the automotive industry of China has become the catalyst for the growth of other sectors as well. The automotive industry of China has directed its attention towards the infrastructure development patterns (Zhang, 2003). The automobile industry of China is the major driver of the economy of the United States. This market has also played a vital role in the growth of other industrial economies. When Henry Ford applied the technique of line production in order to produce cars, the product transformed from a luxury item to an essential component of life. The automotive industry of China has evolved as the major driving the economy of China and its workforce. Some of the arguments about Chinese automotive industry focus on the consumption of automobiles in the market of China and the export approach of the country. According to different indicators, China is open to the foreign in vestment like Korea and Japan. These indicators also suggest that China may take a hybrid approach in order to direct its attention towards domestic consumption. At the same time, China may also build vehicles for export in order to produce world-class cars (Business Line, 2002) The automotive car industry of China is export-focused. The industry is very complex and is undergoing a transformation from low-cost to value-added products.  Ã‚   The global economic crises have severely influenced the automotive sector of the United States. However, the auto industry of China is growing constantly. The industry has become a bright focus for foreign car manufacturers. In the year 2008, China produced approximately eight times more vehicles than those produced in the 1990s. The annual production of cars in the automotive industry has allowed China to surpass the United States. The vehicles produced in the automotive industry of China have become very sophisticated with the passage of time. It is because of the partnership of China with major automotive giants including Volkswagen, Toyota, Mazda, GM, Honda, and others. The purpose of this partnership is to boost technological cooperation (Chang’An Automobile Group, 2002).

The Coca-Cola Company Financial Results Analysis Research Paper

The Coca-Cola Company Financial Results Analysis - Research Paper Example There are various interesting issues about the North American market for The Coca-Cola Company in terms of its volume growth or declines for the period. For instance, in the second quarter of 2012, there was a volume growth of 4% at the global level. In the same aspect, in the quarter it turned to 5% in accordance with the year-to-date ratings. Therefore, this suggests that there was a growth of volume by 1% for North America in the succeeding quarter and year-to-date affecting even the international volume that leapt to 5%. Alternatively, in the following second quarter, there was a growth of 3% of net revenues with another 7% of net revenues in the comparable currency (Onkvisit, 2004). This means there were significant growths in the quarters and the net revenues of comparable currency. There was also the operating income standing at 7% with the net revenue of 6%. However, the met revenues have a possibility of decline if there are no checks in the growth of the operating income. It is also essential to note there are varying drivers of profitability during the quarter at The Coca Cola Company. This has also led to, interesting long-term, impact in terms of profits and eventual success. For example, there is the maximization of returns through close monitoring of profits and minimization of losses. In the prospect of maximization of returns, the company ensures that it gives its shareholders a large portion of their volume sales. (Hannaford, 2007). Alternatively, another driving factor is marketing in the context of distribution and donation of both macro and micro profits. In distribution channels, there is the direct and indirect selling type that gives the beverage company an edge of its competitors such as Pepsi and Nestle among others. Therefore, the long term effect of these profits is expansion and increased production in new markets across the world. The Earning per Share results for the quarter in comparison to historic results and long-term growth t argets have interesting information. For instance, in the third quarter, the EPS was a headwind of 5% with comparable net revenue of 7%. This eventually deflated to $ 0.50% in the same third quarter from net revenue of 4%. Similarly, there is also the comparable EPS that stands at 2% from the normal $0.51 in the year-to-date financial analysis (Rich et al 2009). However, if compared to the historic results and the long-term targets, there are various disparities. The historic results posted an EPS of $1.65 from comparable net revenue of 2% and 5% respectively in the third quarter. This means that there will be an increase of volume growth in the context of net revenue and comparable operating income. Furthermore, it would also reflect on the currency neutral of net revenues that affect the financial analysis of Earning per Share. The Coca Cola Company has made tremendous achievements of growth leading to acquisition of other feasible emerging markets. On that account, the emerging m arkets include Thailand, South Africa, India and China that have displayed a notable consumption of the company’s products (Pacek & Thorniley, 2007). This has led the beverage company to make heavy investments in terms of marketing expansion and distribution network. Similarly, there will be an establishment of new bottling plants that generate profits to equal to the net value of the company. Alternatively, the Coca Cola Compa

It operates supercenters, discount stores, Sams club, and neighborhood markets. Wal-Mart operates in countries all over the world such as: Brazil, Argentina, China, Canada, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, United Kingdom and Puerto Rico. Wal-marts operations are subject to different laws, cultures, and customs. There are laws and regulation around the world that affects Wal-Mart each year, therefore the statement of ethics must be modified to match the changes in these laws and customs. Wal-Mart uses an organizational theory whereas the company utilizes its resources effectively increasing productivity. The company has been a leader in the category over any other company around. Wal-Mart uses a decentralized structure which leads to improved performance for the company. There are many ways that make Wal-Mart different from the othe r companies such as technology, innovation, and cost leadership. E. Organizational structure initiatives requiring H.R. support H.R. does not support the organizational structure alone. Developing careers and management the companies are involving all their employees. This was brought about because of the stiff competition in the retail sectors. New ways are a must for companies who are going to incorporate job enrichment. Wal-Mart has an orientation program that involves retention practices for their employees. When an employee starts their employment with Wal-Mart, they are taken through the recruitment process, which shows them what their new job position is. This also teaches the employee about the companys organizational structure, and about the Wal-Mart history. The employees are informed that the same warm welcome that is extended to the consumers when entering Wal-Mart goes the same for them when they report for work. The whole idea is to keep your employees once an organization has invested in them. Treat your employees well and they will feel a greater need to remain within the company. The employees at Wal-Mart are offered training and development programs, and this is considered as part of their regular work environment. The companys objective is to train and develop their employees to be prepared with the necessary skills, if chosen to climb the corporate latter as a well-trained employee leader. Wal-Mart came up the Leaders out In Front this means that the managers within the 4 manager areas will be responsible for training. This also gives them a chance to improve themselves for their own advancement goals. This will help improve the employees performance and according to the organization, the assistant managers are the ones who will be responsible for this training Another training program established by Wal-Mart uses a training program which is the store learning program that virtual classrooms that in certain selected stores employees learn what the most effective methods of delivery service. Wal-Mart employees develop their careers through skill assessments. The company uses an Associate Investment model where supervisors evaluate employee competencies, and allows the assessment of the evaluation process. If the evaluation was conducted incorrect or inaccurate, the company can detect it and makes their employees more prepared for future assessments. (King, 2006) The company goes through a career assessment and development process, which is known as the Phase one, the informative phase, which involves on boarding so that the company can ascertain whether their employees know all the skills and knowledge required to perform their job functions. In the fundamental track phase, the company conducts performance management, which assists their employees in the process of understanding their responsibilities, and is also tailored to create a good foundation for employees as perform their duties. The third phase for the employees is the advanced track phase. Associates are taught how to plan their careers. The company assures that their employees go through all the progressive steps required to advance to different positions within the company. Associates are required to evaluate their own performance, training and skills, so that they can maintain some kind of idea where they stand in their company. Wal-Mart employees while in this program are provided training for example on how to write resumes, conduct interviews, plan their careers and seek for job opportunities within the company. Many Wal-Mart employees have undergone these training programs where they have learned what it is to be part of the Wal-Mart family. The top managers understand the importance of developing well trained employees within the company. They feel very strongly on retaining their employees that have been through their training programs. (Marquez, 2005) The companys HR stated that the companys success is because of the dedication and time that is put into evaluating whether the best qualified employee has pursued the opportunities that the company offers. They are going to start working on obtaining information from their employees, to see what it is that the employee may want to pursue in his career with the company. Once this is accomplished, then the company can offer that specific training for that area, dept. or location. Because of employee concerns, Wal-Mart decided to come up with a plan that would will not only open up communication between management and staff, but would very much strengthen relations between them. This would be a great approach in this company. HR has been striving to improve employee practices. HR in improving career practices, decided to place an HR executive in charge of several stores instead of being placed in one store. This way the services can be better coordinated throughout the country. (Wal-Mart, 2008) Wal-Mart has also implemented a way to help their HR employees, by forming a five member team who has legal backgrounds and experience in HR. This team can offer assistance and provide advice to the managers when needed. This assistance for the managers, allows the managers more time to concentrate on their staff, because this helps to reduce their workloads in dealing and handling staff, and staff can concentrate on their jobs. (Wal-Mart, 2005) F. Organizational Markets/Methods of Organizational Marketing Wal-Mart marketing methods includes: offering items from the internet, adds in the newspaper, and commercial advertisement. This method of marketing keeps Wal-Mart customers coming back for more deals and low priced needed items. H.R. also plays a huge part in marketing for Wal-Mart by hiring and screening the right individuals to help with the marketing. Its very important to make sure the right people are on board so that Wal-Mart can market and sell their products. G. ORGANIZATIONAL, MARKETS/METHODS OF ORGANIZATIONAL MARKETING REQUIRING H.R. SUPPORT V. H.R. DEVELOPMENT SERVICES: NOW DOING AND NEED TO ADD: (15 PAGES) A. Organizational Core Competencies Wal-Mart is well aware that strategy for business expansion is the most important strategy that makes the company as big as it is today. Wal-Mart has managed to go from one single store to thousands of stores and supermarkets, all across the world. Wal-Mart has more growing plans which includes: a regional and international expansion. Putting these plans into place, the location would have to be one of the basic components for the plans. Location is important for a company like Wal-Mart, and other factors are involved also such as: distance and cost. One good characteristic that helps in determining the location is positioning the store next to a distribution center. By choosing the location near the distribution center will cut down on shipping time and gas expense for the truck. Wal-Mart also tries to locate the store around the community. By placing it around the community, makes it convenient for customers to shop by saving their time of driving. The next best thing that Wal-Mart keeps in mind when picking a location is the parking lot. Wal-Mart always tries to make sure parking lots have enough space and that customers are able to easily enter and exit. Wal-Marts expansion strategy must have a good plan put into place and with highly committed people and customers this can be made possible. Wal-Mart has competitive advantage over its competitors because of the following core competencies. As promised in its slogan Wal-Mart has been providing products at lower prices, it is possible due to the low cost operations. Wal-Mart share the value of low cost with customers by selling the products at lower prices. Hard working, efficient and process oriented employees have been working with Wal-Mart. Better use of technology to directly connect with supplier and partners. Implemented Just-in-time inventory process to reduce the cost of managing inventory at Warehouses In summary. Wal-Mart core competencies are employees, cost efficient processes and relationship with supplier and partners by using technology. B. Strategic Planning for Organization and H.R. involvement Wal-Mart Strategy Strategic planning for Wal-Mart involves differentiating its organization from its competitors in a way that is sustainable in the future. Wal-Mart plans to continue to strive hard to make their organization unique, distinctive and identify key success factors that will drive the customers to continue to buy their products. H.R. can make this possible by being a key player who has the drive and skills to make this possible. Wal-Mart dominates the American retailing industry due to number of factors like its business model which is still a mystery and its effectiveness in not letting the rivals let know about the weaknesses. Wal-Mart made strategic attempts in the its formulation to dominate the retail market where it has its presence, growth by expansion in the US and Internationally, create widespread name recognition and customer satisfaction in relation to brand name Wal-Mart and branching into new sectors of retailing. It is learnt that Wal-Mart strives on three generic strategies consisting of Focus Strategy, the Differentiation Strategy and overall cost leadership. Managers strive hard to make their organizations unique, distinctive and identify key success factors that will drive the customers to buy their products. Thus, firm specific resources and capabilities are crucial in explaining the firms performance. The Resource Based View (RBV) explains competitive heterogeneity based on the premise that close competitors differ in their resources and capabilities in important and durable ways. The companys capability can be found through its functionality, reliable performance, like Wal-Mart superior logistics. (Helfat, 2002) Wal-Mart has firm infrastructure, well equipped in human resource with management professionals and technologically too. Any organizations thrive hard to be successful for which it needs to have better resources and superior capabilities. Wal-Mart has strong RBV with economically and financially very strong enough to stand still in the time of crisis. Pereira states that dominating the retail market is its key strategy. Wal-Mart operates on low price strategy which is operated as every day low prices (EDLP) which builds trust among the customers.(Brunn, 2006)The strategy lies in purchasing the goods at lower prices and selling the goods to customer at much lower prices, cutting the price as far as possible and increasing the profit by increasing the number of sales. This ferociously increases the competition in the market and Wal-Mart competes with all its competitors till it is dominant it the market. Wal-Mart is expanding seriously and rapidly which is also its strategic goal. Wal-Mart employs over 1.3 associates, owns over 4000 stores out of which 3000 are in US and serves around 100 million customers weekly. Wal-Mart has acquired many international stores and merged with some super stores like ASDA in UK. Wal-Mart far flung network of retail outlets has ensured that Wal-Mart interacts with and has impact on virtually every locality within US. (Helfat, 2002) The expanded strategy has led the hunger of Wal-Mart to many European Countries. It is learnt that three countries with no Wal-Mart stores became part of corporations international presence wherein the domestic retail chains were taken over by Wal-Mart including 122 Woolco stores in Canada, 21 Wertkauf stores in Germany and 229 ASDA units in United Kingdom. The takeover strategy by Wal-Mart keeps the company at forefront when entering into the new market and the number of competitors is also minimized. The strategies have he lped the Wal-Mart to rein in number one position in international countries making it the largest retailer in the world. It is seen that Wal-Mart has significantly the Porters five force model wherein through proper strategic planning and strategic implementation has led to removal of barrier entry, rivalry from competitors and pricing norms. In regard to substitutes, Wal-Mart in order to achieve its aim of customer satisfaction has selling goods under its own legal brand. Wal-Marts big box phenomenon has changed the retailing industry in the United States which is often considered as discount stores and makes profit through high volume of purchases and low markup on profits.(Parnell, 2008)Wal-Mart with its low cost and ever expanding strategy has made a dramatic impact since 1962 when Sam Walton first started his business. With this strategy, Wal-Mart has now over 4000 stores and outlets in US and other countries through acquisition and mergers. C. Hiring process and tools Walmart Hiring Process The Walmart process, depending on the position, is a fairly streamlined set of discrete events beginning with a standard application form fill, following through with a series of interviews, and culminating with an ultimate decision as to whether a candidate is the correct hire for Walmart. Along the way, a job candidate may be asked to perform any number of skills assessments or take a battery of tests to determine the applicants fitness for a job at Walmart. For a checker, the entire hiring process could unfold in a matter of days, while for more responsible management and executive positions, the hiring process could last any number of weeks or even months from the time of inception. Hope and Saul Bellow :: Biography Biographies Essays

Hope and Saul Bellow      Ã‚  Ã‚   People grow up to respect their elders, their society, and their lifestyle. We learn from the people around us and our own experience. Saul Bellow presents his moral code and the standards that he believes people should follow. His characters experience loneliness and alienation from society. They place blame on the people around them, society, and religion. Each character believes in something; hope is everything to them. They think they can promote change and achieve a moral standard. Bellow believes in the human spirit. His characters show that no matter what we are presented with, or what hand fate deals us, we can conquer.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Bellow acknowledges the primitive tendencies latent in human beings. Scratch the surface of human civilization, and you will find the beast lying just below. As Frank D. McConnell states "the shuddering recognition of how little distant we actually are from the savagery of our origins, how fragile a thing is the civilization which makes, we continue to tell ourselves, our life worth living". Bellow's protagonists sense this dark side of the human spirit lurking within society. They struggle to find decency and meaning in the chaos of the world.    In Bellow's novel The Victim, the main character, Asa Leventhal, a resident of Chicago, struggles with his identity in a subtle way. Instead of philosophizing about who he is and what he is doing, he creates conflict with people and society. Allbee lost his job and had a drinking problem, Levanthal could have helped get him a new job or given him assistance. He is insecure about what he is doing, because despite his wish to ignore and turn away his old friend Kirby Allbee, he also feels compelled to help him.   Allbee places all the blame on Levanthal for losing his job. If Levanthal had talked to him and told him it was also due to his drinking problem and relationship difficulties, he would not be blamed for costing Allbee his job. Instead, he takes responsibility he is unwilling to confront Allbee, wanting none of Allbee's problems to invade his life. As Derek Rubin writes in his analysis of Levanthal's faults "Levanthal's being caught between his desire to turn Allbee away and his inability to ignore Allbee's demand for help is related to his insecurity as a marginal man"(1). Kirby tries to reason with Leventhal, but is turned away " 'Watch your talk,' said Leventhal stiffly.

Christmas †8th Grade Expository Example Essay

â€Å"City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style†¦ In the air, there’s a feeling of Christmas†¦Ã¢â‚¬ My favorite holiday has always been Christmas. I love everything about it! One of the best things about Christmastime is that we get such a long time off from school. In addition to that, my family flies back home to Pennsylvania in December, so we always get to see snow. We also spend time with family and friends playing games and exchanging gifts, which is always a lot of fun. Of all the holidays, I think Christmas is the best! Towards the end of December, we all really need a break, and Christmas Break comes at just the right time, lasting just over two weeks! It’s so nice to have off from school at a time when there’s great holiday music on the radio and great sales in all the stores. Not to mention the fantastic foods filling my plate as I go to all the holiday get-togethers. I don’t like too many gatherings, though, sometimes I just like to rest. I try to spend most of my time on the long break relaxing and enjoying family. Speaking of family, I get to fly back home to Pennsylvania over Christmas Break to visit my relatives. It is always snowy in Pennsylvania in December, so that’s an exciting part our vacation for my sister and me. We go to my cousins’ house and ride four wheelers in the snow, pulling inner tubes behind them. Our parents usually get some great videos of us playing in the snow. Last year we stayed outside so long in a snowstorm, that our hair was caked with snow by the time we came in! It looked like we had white dreadlocks! It is always so fun having adventures with my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents back home in Pennsylvania. In addition to all of our snowy adventures, we also spend lots of time indoors with famil y and friends playing games and exchanging gifts. My grandma buys tons of little gifts – mostly candy and dollar store items, but a few nice things, too – that she wraps up and uses as prizes in a game that the whole family plays. There are about twenty of us sitting around her long dining room table, and we roll dice for about two minutes. Whenever anyone rolls doubles, they get to take a present. When all the presents are gone, but there’s still time on the clock, you get to steal someone else’s present! It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s the most fun our family has at the holidays. Spending time with all of my family over Christmas Break is a great time that is very special to me†¦and getting little gifts is an added bonus! Just like most people I know, I think Christmas is the best holiday ever! Having such a long time off from school is a much-needed break in the middle of the school year. Because the break is so long, my family can fit in time to fly back home to Pennsylvania to have some fun playing in the snow. The fun continues indoors with family games and gifts, always a highlight of the vacation. This vacation is something I look forward to all year round. Christmas brings me so much happiness†¦just like those Silver Bells. â€Å"Ring-a-ling†¦.Hear them ring†¦ Soon it will be Christmas Day.†

How to Write a Research Essay in Management with Ease

How to Write a Research Essay in Management with Ease In contrast to the common belief that management is the kind of a skill that is required only by leaders, every person needs it. Various management concepts such as coordinating, organizing, and planning are a must for those willing to work for a large company or organization. Thus, it is important for all employees to forearm themselves with strong management skills no matter what position they aim to take. In theory, management skills might seem easy to gain and while college students tend to make the same mistake all the time – they believe that they can use academic journals and books in order to master various concepts involved in the field. Nonetheless, as a skill, management is being developed outside the classroom and usually requires various practices needed to comprehend its importance. Achievement of the main targets and goals, goal setting and interpersonal relations all together depend on management. Therefore, it is a significant element when one is trying to ach ieve success either in professional or academic environment. Basic Tips on Management Research Essay Writing Research essay writing in management is a key test that college professors use in order to evaluate their students’ knowledge. However, in contrast to the other essays and exams, management research essays seek to find out whether college students are familiar with the concepts of the field and have practical skills gained during the course. Research essays in management seek more than just how much you can recall, and call for critical thinking. These assignments seek to test how much information you can execute or apply when dealing with various management issues. At the same time, management research essays are used to understand your application skills and your ability to execute what you learned during the course in theory. A research essay in management can be hard to handle if you’re used to simple questions and book-like straightforward answers. Research Essay in Management: Basic Structure All essays should be well structured to guide both – you and your readers. Research essays in management use the traditional essay format, which means that they include the introduction with a thesis statement, the body with the supporting arguments, and at the end, the conclusion that reiterates your argument or research question. Structuring a research essay is not a difficult task. However, if your paper lacks proper structure, it hence looks incomplete and the chances are that you may get poor grade for your work. So, how does a good research essay outline looks like? All research essays consist of three parts: the introduction; the body paragraphs; the conclusion. The Introduction: this paragraph goes first in your essay; starts with a general statement about the chosen topic; gives background information for your reader; concludes with the thesis statement (the last sentence of the introductory section). The Thesis: the thesis statement is the last sentence of the introductory paragraph; includes one sentence only; is a strong statement that the writer can prove; is the answer to the essay’s research question; is the controlling idea of your management research and is a â€Å"road map† to the research essay; is specific and states one significant idea about the subject. The Body: this is the section where you present the evidence to prove the thesis; the body includes the information that supports/proves the thesis; your supporting information can be evaluation, analysis, persuasion, argument, and/or comparison/contrast; the body of the research essay is well organized with every paragraph containing the topic sentence, the supporting and concluding sentences, as well as the transition to the next paragraph; make sure to cite all support for your thesis, whether paraphrased or quoted. The Conclusion place the conclusion into the last paragraph of the research essay and sum up how your project proved the thesis; restate your thesis statement/research question; leave your target readers with a something to think about; do not provide any new information in this paragraph. Choose a Win-Win Research Topic Sometimes, freedom is not something that you can easily handle, especially when the question is about writing a research essay in management. Even though you may complain about the topics that your professor assigned, selecting your own topic to write an essay about is must more difficult. Without the right recommendations, you can end up choosing a topic that you’ll fail to research and explain even in 50 pages, or one that can be explained in one paragraph only. Here are some helpful guidance on how to pick an interesting management topic for the research essay in a particular sub-field of management. Human Resource Management HR management is known as the process of managing people in companies and organizations. Human resource management (HRM) involves recruiting and retention of people, performance management, and so on. The topics in the area may include the following: Challenges and New Directions in Reinventing Human Resources Management; Strategies to Eliminate Sexual Harassment among the Employees; Challenges in Human Resource Management in Developing Countries Fitting Personality or Professional Qualities: What Is More Important? Matrix Management Matrix Management is an organizational structure where you’re required to report to more than one leader or supervisor. More broadly, it is about the management of cross-business and cross-functional groups that don’t maintain strict vertical business units. To write about Matrix Management, consider the following topics: Management of New Technologies for Global Competitiveness; Analyses, Foundations and Theories of Organizational Behavior; The Nature and Consequences of the Multidivisional Structure; Quantitative Models’ Challenges for Project Planning, Scheduling and Control. Green Management The field is aimed at developing and improving the personnel responsible for environmental communication and activities. The topics that you may do your research on include: Management of Air-Borne Diseases in Indian Villages; The Green Wall: Environmental Leadership, Strategy and Change Management in Business; An Investigation of Hotel Performance in Sustainable Green Environment; How to Reach the Balance between Urbanization, Environmental Sustainability and Changed Lifestyles? Research essay writing also includes many other topics in the sub-fields. Globalization, new technologies, and the range of the associated ethical implications provide many of the issues, such as the management of nonprofit, sports, arts, healthcare, and so on that you can discuss in your research essay. Narrow Down Your Topic Depending on the topic that you choose to work on in the field of management, you may already have something specific to research, or you may simply be required to write about a general subject or theme. If your professor doesn’t specify your topic and you have time to brainstorm, try to choose a subject that is not only interesting to you, but also specific. If you choose a specific issue to debate, you will have plenty of material to work with. Beware of choosing the topics that are too broad. If you do so, you might end up having an essay that has no particular point. To avoid such situations, make sure to narrow down the topic that is on your mind. Are you going to write about hiring the HR managements? Good choice, but the topic is too vague. Consider writing about the fact that hiring talented employees remains the number one concern of CEOs or about discrimination and harassment in HR field in the third world countries. If you’re writing the research-based essay in management, you might look for some inspiration from major sources on the topic – Questia, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fast Company and many others. Transform Your Research While a research essay in management is heavily based on the in-depth research, the premise of the paper is not to just restate what the others have already discovered. The number one goal of writing this kind of academic paper is to transform the research in order to make it your own, showing to your college professor and everyone else that you perfectly grasped management theories and issues and thus, learned to apply them when working with a real-world problem or issue. To transform your management research, make sure to create a list of questions at the beginning. Then, you will have to refer back to them when you’ll be creating your outline. Finding the right answers to the questions from the list will serve as the solid base for the primary points that you’ll make in the body. Add your personal experience with the field of management to transform your research into a compelling academic project. Cite Your Sources Properly If you are going to use information or ideas of some other writers (you definitely are!), you will face the necessity to credit each source of information. This is true when you need to directly quote another source or sum up someone else’s ideas or words. The way you’re going to do that will depend on the citation style your professor would like to see in your research essay. Usually, students are required to write the authors’ names, the titles, the publication date and the information location. Before you cite, make sure to find out what citation style you have to use. There is a range of various citation styles that may be used in the field of management. Approach your college professors to ask them to provide you with the style to use. The most popular academic styles that students deal with include American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association (MLA) and Chicago styles. Before you use any of the guides we gave above, check the rules if citing in one of the online guides. As a rule, college students are required to give full citations at the end of the research essay. Typically, the citation lists are called the ‘Reference List’ or ‘Bibliography’. When it comes to the body of the research essay, you have to use there the in-text citation in order to let your target readers know that the information that you just used isn’t your own. The in-text citation will let your readers know where the full citation is, i.e. â₠¬â€œ at the end of your research essay. On the whole, you don’t have to cite the things that are well known for people around. For instance, you definitely don’t have to explain what management or HR is, as well as you don’t have to cite a source if you say something like, â€Å"Management can be defined as the range of the tasks and activities that are usually undertaken in order to archive a goal or an objective by the assortment of continuous activities†. The Last Thing When you look for the tips for the research essay writing in management, two things tend to be always there. These are revision and proofreading. Once you are through with the research essay in management, it’s important to give it to your family members or friends who can help you to find all the mistakes and misconceptions within the text. Who knows, maybe they will be good enough to find even some mistakes in your research findings? Research essay revision is important because it helps you to submit the paper that is free from the most obvious mistakes and factual. Moreover, it is important to proofread your essay in order to avoid grammatical mistakes. Even the best writers on earth make mistakes when they write their masterpieces. Without a doubt, there will be one or two sentence structure, punctuation or grammar mistakes in your research essay. Submitting such an imperfect assignment will definitely lead to the bad grades. Therefore, it is necessary to proofread the pap er before you submit it, and make certain that it has no trivial or obvious mistakes.

How to get the best severance package

How to get the best severance package So†¦it happened. You’ve gotten the bad news that you’re fired, or laid off. It may feel like the world is ending- or you may just feel shock. Whatever you’re feeling, the fact remains the same: you’re leaving your job, and not by your own choice. While you do need to embrace that reality, you don’t necessarily have to take the severance package that was initially offered to you. When the worst happens, take these considerations into account to see if you can improve your severance.Talk to a lawyer. An employment attorney can help you navigate the waters after you’ve been terminated, particularly if you feel like you weren’t fired for proper cause or you were marched out of the office quickly without the chance to take stock of the situation. This doesn’t mean â€Å"sue the bastards,† but it does mean you should get a professional’s advice on whether you do have grounds for a potential suit. An attorney can also help you figure out if you have any wiggle room for negotiation.Negotiate yourself.Even if you do have an attorney, it’s usually the best course to do the negotiating yourself (unless you are likely to file a lawsuit- then it’s best to have your attorney either present or speaking on your behalf). Having someone negotiate for you can escalate the tension, so be careful to keep the tone civil if you’re hoping to get a better deal.Ask for more.At this point, you have little to lose, so you should request a higher severance payment. You should definitely be realistic- the payment is unlikely to double or triple from an initial offer, but you may be able to negotiate a lump sum payment vs. continued salary or an increase in the total payment.Nail down insurance information. One of the trickiest parts of unemployment can be insurance coverage, especially if you’re used to having solid coverage through your job. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Ac t of 1995 (a.k.a. COBRA) means you can likely continue your insurance coverage for up to 18 months, but at your own expense. If coverage is a concern, this is a point to raise with the company. You may be able to get the company to keep paying for your insurance for a period of time after you leave.Ask about unused benefits. Some companies may offer a check in exchange for unused vacation or personal time, so be sure to see what’s on the table and fully understand what your company’s policies are on that front.Be clear on what’s in the severance agreement.Always, always, always read the fine print. Some severance agreements contain â€Å"non-compete† language, which limits your ability to go work for a competitive company. Others contain a non-disparagement clause, which means you may have to forfeit your total severance package if you’re busted saying anything negative about the company after you leave (even if it’s true). Make sure you unde rstand what the conditions are if you accept the severance package.Once you get the bad news, the important thing is†¦don’t panic. Or if you do panic, try to get it out of your system and then settle in for the next phase of talking through the logistics of your leaving. Just like negotiating a salary, you may have the chance to improve your package- if you ask for it.

Joint Functions Commander's Estimate Coursework

Joint Functions Commander's Estimate - Coursework Example (b) Terrain. Azerbaijan terrain is very hilly. This kind of terrain affects observation and fire; concealment; cover; movement (surface and air); employment of weapons as well as surveillance. (c) The socio-political climate. The problem of rebels in the area of operation is a political one. Some rebel groups are supported by political forces from outside while some still get support from within the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. (2) Enemy situation (a) Dispositions. The enemy is located in the vast western and eastern parts of country where people have undergone through serious problems. (b) Composition. Target enemies are youthful and are recruited by command generals. The enemy uses small rocket launchers and small arms, indicating their non- sophisticated type of operations. Adversary capabilities cannot significantly delay successful execution of our military operations due to our forces’ good training and weaponry and the adversary’s unconventional warf are tactics. (c) Strength. The target enemy is large in numbers with almost half a million dedicated rebels. The enemy is divided into units both to the eastern and western parts of the country as independent units. The overall command is by the general. The enemy has no sophisticated artillery but is said to use torture as part of their tactics on their perceived enemies. The enemy also has special capabilities such as air defense and anti-tank equipments but uses unconventional warfare, but is non-sophisticated in terms of surveillance or combat. (d) Recent and present significant activities. Intelligence shows that the target enemy terrorizes local communities and uses random attacks. The target enemy also sporadically attacks police and military camps. Adversaries have taken responsibility of attacks on local churches and schools. The target enemy’s weakness is the hostility they get from the local population. Our joint operational planning with the GOC provides framework for the functional operations (Vego XG-123) and if it goes well, it has the potential of being successful and perceived in good light by the local civilian population. The enemy has unconventional weapons and tactics. The enemy intelligence collection techniques are poor as they depend on informers from friendly governments and local informants and so, we can beat the enemy through sophisticated intelligence network on their movements and their strategic installations and points (Vego 15). (3) Our own situation courses of action Our combat force and power in terms of equipment and intelligence gives us some advantage over the target enemy, but caution must be taken against air strikes to avoid civilian causalities. COA 1. Combat may include strikes from sea but this is not feasible as Azerbaijan is landlocked and such action would require a lot of logistical support from neighboring countries and in so doing, the rebels may see these neighboring countries as their enemies. This has serious consequences in terms of regional peace and stability. COA 2. The main combat will be attack by land to the enemy’s strategic installations and command centers. We will also use defense, especially where the civilian population is involved to avoid civilian casualties. We must accomplish the mission without undue damage to the command and operation. Attacks will be offensive day and night. Command

A Research Proposal on Dementia Intervention Effectiveness Essay

A Research Proposal on Dementia Intervention Effectiveness - Essay Example 17 billion per year which can  increase  up to ?50 billion per year as dementia cases also  increase  (Comas-Herrera et al., 2007). The medical and economic costs of dementia can potentially  intensify  without  identification  of  effective  solutions. The social and  psychological  costs of its patients and families are also at stake. Dementia damages functions of memory, reasoning, communication skills and skills necessary for daily activities (Banerjee and Wittenberg 2009). It changes the  mood, behaviour and  personality  of the affected person resulting to depressive tendencies (Kenny 2011). However, the difficulty is that these symptoms progress slowly over time and, therefore, not easily recognized. No cure  has been found  yet for dementia and effective treatment that can reduce the  chance  of having one (Dementia Services Development Centre 2009). Recent dementia research  has been focused  on its early detection and prediction ofà ‚  occurrence  on potential disease carriers. For example, researchers had a breakthrough on how Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia, can be diagnosed. ... indicators that can help  detect  the  likelihood  of  dementia  to  occur  in a person and even the actual diagnosis when a person already has the  disease. Objectives of the Research The information available to us now about dementia leaves us to intervention strategies that can be implemented in the early detection of the disease. Although it is worthwhile to  know  how dementia can be avoided, research has yet to be done to ascertain these facts. We  are left  to determining patterns among dementia patients that can be used to manage dementia prevalence. A  clear  example is the  identification  of risk factors for cardio vascular diseases (Kenny 2011). Effective intervention programmes are, therefore,  critical  in  management  of dementia patients. Identification of appropriate steps that can  promote  mental  recovery  and positive attitude by dementia patients could be the best solution. The solution should be on how we can  address  the challenge posed by dementia in the society today. This research aims to: 1. Identify the existing dementia intervention programmes implemented within the United Kingdom according to  literature  and  survey  among dementia clinics. 2. Assess the effectiveness of the intervention programmes  available  within UK clinics according to response of dementia patients. 3. Propose an effective intervention programme directed to UK dementia patients, using information from both literature and  survey. Research Questions This research intends to answer the following questions about the effectiveness of dementia interventions  available  within UK. 1. What are the existing dementia intervention programmes currently implemented within the last 20 years in UK? What are the recent discoveries about the  disease  and actions relating to
